Who We Are
The Glass Packaging Institute (GPI) serves as the voice for the glass container industry in Washington, D.C., and across the country. GPI serves its member companies through legislative, public relations, promotional and technical activities.
GPI member companies bring a diverse array of products to consumers. Companies produce glass containers for food, beer, soft drinks, wine, liquor, cosmetics, toiletries, medicine and more. In addition to serving domestic companies that manufacture glass containers, GPI also represents Canadian and Mexican glass container companies and numerous suppliers.
The GPI Board of Trustees is the trade association’s key decision making body. The Board consists of one representative from each member company, and one representative from the associate members, the closure manufacturers and from foreign member companies. At semi-annual Trustee meetings, the Board develops an agenda for GPI activities, approves budgets and sets the association’s course for the future. In addition to the Board, there are several committees and task forces that are involved in the issues that affect the industry.

SEVEN CLEAR REASONS TO JOIN
Through GPI, glass container manufacturers speak with one voice to advocate industry standards, promote sound environmental and recycling policies, and educate packaging professionals.
GPI Membership
The association has two classes of members: Glass Container Manufacturers and Associates. All members receive a broad range of benefits for their company. Talk to us about joining.
GPI member companies bring an array of consumer product packaging to the marketplace, including food, beer, soft drinks, wine, liquor, and cosmetics.
Associate members represent a broad range of suppliers, including businesses that provide glass making machinery, raw materials, inspection equipment, recyclable materials, labeling, refractories, construction and engineering services, shipping cartons, maintenance services, gas/electric energy, rail and truck transportation and advertising used in the manufacture or sale of glass containers.

Organization/Structure
The GPI Board of Trustees is the association’s key decision making body. It includes one representative from each of the Glass Container Manufacturer Members and two Associate Member representatives, who are elected by GPI’s Associate Member companies. Reporting to the Board are the technical, marketing, and government affairs committees, made up of Glass Container Manufacturer and Associate Member company representatives. Committee objectives include energy reduction (technical), glass container promotion (marketing), and increasing cullet availability (government affairs).
Association Meetings
The full membership meets each fall at GPI’s annual meeting. GPI Trustees carry out the affairs of the organization at that meeting and at other times throughout the year. Each spring is an Associate Members/Marketing Meeting. And committees meet regularly throughout the year.
